The smell of a European Christmas market. The air around the markets is thick with fires, roasting meats and chestnuts, leather, cinnamon, mulled wine, and fir trees. You can almost track them down by sticking your nose up in the air and taking a big whiff.
Glühwein is a delicious warm drink of German/Austrian descent. It’s name means “Glow Wine” and refers to the “glow” that you get after drinking it. And boy is there is a heavy glow — that warm alcohol hits hard and quick. This is a traditional recipe that is sure to make you glow.
My husband and I got married last year and we wanted to start a holiday tradition all our own. We decided that instead of buying things that we don’t need we’d head off the some European Christmas markets. Last year, we visited markets in Germany, the Czech Republic, and France and had a blast! It’s definitely a tradition that we’re planning to keep up for many years to come.
