Running: Love/Hate

I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with running.

Love the open road.
…..Hate the heat.
Love the simplicity. You don’t need anything except for a good pair of shoes (no excuses).
…..Hate the boredom.
Love the feeling of accomplishment after a good run.
…..Hate when I see that my good run is a snail’s pace.

But I recently decided to give it a real shot. Not a “I’m gonna run a few times this week,” but a real program. And hopefully, I’ll get real results.

My goal? Increase my speed and efficiency. Begin to crave my afternoon runs.

I’m a little over a week in now and haven’t seen improvement in either area – but I’m okay with that. I am, however, craving the workout and the competition I’ve got going with myself.

Here’s the treadmill workout I’ve been doing at home. (Let it be noted that I am not a trainer or fitness guru in anyway. I do what is comfortable to me — and so should you.)

I’ve also been using the Sworkit Pro app (available for Apples, Android, and Kindle devices) for some cross training, conditioning, and yoga. They have a free version, but the Pro version is only $3.99 in the Google Playstore and includes videos of moves, not just pictures. Give it a shot and let me know if you like it. The app has been really helpful to me when I have to travel for work because I can do the workouts in my hotel room.

So let me know, what got you in to running and how did you get faster and more efficient?
